The original name of the festival changed several times at the beginning, it was originally called the Sausage Festival, then Wurst Week, and finally Wurstfest. The idea behind Wurstfest is to celebrate the German culture in New Branfels, one should expect lots of beer to be flowing and many top quality tasting sausages, consider Wurstfest as the Oktoberfest equivalent.
